Our eyes are fixed in 2026!

Last week’s newsletter mentioned how the “word of the year” had recently become a “phrase of the year.” I’d love to tell you how strategic it was that I didn’t mention the phrase for 2026, knowing that this week would explore it. So… let’s call it the strategy of “divine oversight.”

Eyes fixed

If you’re a frequent reader here, you’ve observed me write regularly about how John 15 Abiding is the engine for John 17 Uniting. And if you just signed up this week, you might have heard me preach on it last Sunday!

Two of the daily devotionals I use that seem to be supernaturally relevant on a regular basis, addressing what I just wrote in my prayer journal, are Jesus Calling and Hearing His Voice. I have lots of familiarity with the ditch of self-reliance. I’m going to school for growing dependence on Him. My eyes are fixed in 2026, one day at a time, trusting Jesus’ wise words in Matthew 6:34 “Do not worry about tomorrow… for each day has enough…” Eyes fixed on Jesus, who’s the author of John 17 and who alone knows how to carry it out. And eyes fixed on today, whatever He directs us to do next.

So where might that be?

I am certain that the answer will look quite a bit different in six months, but here are some directions you’ll notice right away:

  • Church of the Week, and more. Season two of Church of the Week begins today. We’re inviting the whole Tucson Body of Christ to focus their prayers each week on the same local congregation, and you’ll find that information right here in this newsletter (see below), as well as on a new page on our website. Soon to come will be schools and nonprofits to pray for as well.

  • John 17 Weekends, times two. We’re offering two sets of John 17 Weekends this year, and the first one is only a little over five weeks away. Next week’s newsletter will include more information, but you can find out more now on the website.

  • Prayer Summits - save the dates! Our three-day pastor prayer summit will always be the last Monday-Wednesday of April, so  April 27-29, 2026, back on Mt Lemmon. Our Christian leaders’ summit for leaders of all flavors – in congregations, schools, businesses, nonprofits, etc., is the Thursday before Thanksgiving: November 19, 2026. Consider making them the big rocks that other events adjust around.

  • Watch for the new! Leaders of 17 (really!) different Tucson-area John 17 initiatives gathered last month, and many will be introduced in this space in coming months. SO excited about the leaders God is calling and equipping!

  • 2033 around the world! 2033 is being recognized by Christians of every stripe all over the world and in dozens of directions as the 2000th anniversary of Jesus’ death and resurrection, and the birth of the Christian church at Pentecost. Google it and you’ll find incredible activity already underway. We’re building teams for the long haul, so much of the work is in the background right now.

There’s room for you!

We’ll be updating the website to catch up to all the places Jesus is taking us, so as you see or hear about areas you want to learn more about or help develop, let us know! John 17 is Jesus’ prayer for each and every one of us!

Blessings!
